Have you ever heard a message and immediately thought, “That can’t be right”? Or maybe you felt the urge to shut it down before really thinking it through?
Oftentimes, we accept things just because they feel good, and reject things just because they challenge us.
The truth is, we don’t just hear—we filter.
Listening through our preferences, emotions, and opinions, if something confirms what we already agree with, we welcome it…But if it confronts us, we push it away.
And over time, that can shape what we believe more than truth itself.
The Bible warned about this becoming more common.
In 2 Timothy 4:3–4, it says people will gather teachers who say what their “itching ears want to hear” and turn away from the truth.
But here’s the problem: God’s truth doesn’t always sound good. Sometimes it corrects you. Sometimes it exposes you. Sometimes it calls you to change.
And not everything that feels right is right.
So, the next time you hear something you have an urge to reject outright, pause before dismissing it. Think about it, search the Scriptures, and be honest with yourself.
The Wise Believer doesn’t just accept what sounds good; they test everything against God’s Word, especially when it challenges what they already believe.
