You’ve done it before. Something came to mind, and you told yourself that you’d remember. But what happened? Like the many times before, you forgot.
We can’t depend on our memories, and God knew we’d have this weakness. Throughout the Bible, He not only warned people not to forget, but gave them action steps so that they wouldn’t.
In one instance, after helping the Israelites miraculously cross the Jordan River, God had them take up some stones to form a monument so that future generations would remember.
Similarly, many of the feasts and traditions, like Passover and The Lord’s Supper, God commanded be done routinely so that we remember.
Learning from these, here are 3 wise things you can do to stop trusting your memory:
1. Keep A Journal – Throughout the day, God gives us ideas and things to pray for that we may can’t carry out instantly. Having a journal allows you to quickly make notes to review later.
2. Set Reminders – Whether using your phone or setting up a sign in your house or office, it only has to be done once, and you’d have something that constantly brings it to mind.
And when divine intervention is necessary…
3. Ask The Holy Spirit – Jesus describes The Holy Spirit as a comforter who can teach and remind us of the things He’s taught. Saying a quick prayer asking the Holy Spirit to bring to mind what’s needed can save the day.
So, what can you do right now so that you don’t forget this message?
The wise believer doesn’t trust their memory, but takes action steps so they don’t forget.
