It’s Not The Message—It’s The Heart

Have you ever found yourself sharing God’s truth and wondering why people are not receiving it?

Maybe some do for a little while, but shortly after they are back to their old ways?

When this happens, we may become discouraged thinking that we are the problem when it’s not the case.

While we should strive to communicate God’s truth with wisdom, love, and clarity, the Bible teaches that the main reason people don’t receive it is the condition of their hearts.

I’m sure you’ve heard of The Parable of the Sower. Jesus shared how a farmer scattered some seeds that fell on different types of ground.

Each ground represented a type of heart and the seeds represented the message of the kingdom.

Only the seeds that fell on good soil produced an abundant harvest. Not because the seeds that fell on the other grounds were faulty, but because those other grounds weren’t fertile.

We can see this in action on the day of Pentecost.

After they were filled with the Holy Spirit, Peter addressed a crowd with the truth about Jesus Christ.

After calling them to repent, the Bible says, “Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day” (Acts 2:41 NIV).

Imagine that, Peter was freshly filled with the Holy Spirit and still not everyone who heard his sermon repented.

So, whenever you share God’s truth with others don’t be discouraged thinking it’s a lack of skill or other personal attribute.

The Wise Believer understands it’s a matter of the heart, keeps sowing the seed, and leaves the results to God.
