Your Reputation Is Worth More Than Money | Proverbs 22:1

Given a choice between 1 million dollars and a good reputation, which would you choose?

On the surface, the money seems to be worth more, but according to The Bible, it’s not.

Proverbs 22:1 says, “A good name is more desirable than great riches; to be esteemed is better than silver or gold” (NIV).

Imagine being a millionaire but having such a bad name that no one wants to sell you anything.

Or the ability to take any trip you want, but with no family or friends to share the experience with.

Now, the Bible isn’t against having both a good name and riches; Abraham did.

But forced to make a choice, a good name is to be chosen.

If you are poor, a good name can open up doors that lead to riches.

If you are hungry, a good name alone can secure food.

It’s like the story of The Widow’s Oil.

Owing a debt her husband left behind, the prophet Elisha told her to borrow as many jars as she could.

Every jar she borrowed was miraculously filled with oil.

This quietly teaches us that the extent of your blessings can be based on how much people are willing to help you.

So, whatever you say or do, consider the impact on your reputation.

The Wise Believer understands the value of a good name and doesn’t trade it for anything.
