God Called You—Everyone Won’t Understand It

Watch The Video

Have you ever told someone what God was leading you to do? How was their reaction?

Depending on what it was, chances are it wasn’t the supportive response you were expecting.

I’ve been there. Now I don’t even tell close family members some of my goals to protect them during their infancy.

You don’t have to share your plans either. There is no Bible verse that says, “thou shalt share your dreams with others”. Yes, I know. When the idea hits, there is a rush of excitement. It’s hard to keep quiet.

But don’t do it! Remember what happened to Joseph when he told his brothers about his dreams?

Sarcastically, they asked, “Do you intend to reign over us? Will you actually rule us?” And they hated him all the more…’ (Genesis 37:8 NIV).

Now you might be thinking. Doesn’t the Bible say, it’s wise to seek counsel (Proverbs 11:14). It sure does! But it’s one thing to tell random people about your calling and another thing to ask wise people for their advice on a specific decision.

One derails you before you start, and the other helps you hit the right target. Sadly, most people have a limited vision for what God can do through them.

When you tell them your vision, they think they are helping you by steering you in another direction.

This is what Peter did when Jesus told him he had to suffer and die. “This shall never happen to you!”, Peter said, leading Jesus to rebuke him (Matthew 16:22-23).

So remember, everyone won’t understand God’s calling on your life. The wise believer keeps quiet, understanding that a vision shared with the wrong people only invites disappointment.
