I’ve always found it interesting how we can underestimate the impact of small things.
One bad decision may not seem like a big deal. One shortcut, one lie, one compromise, or one unhealthy influence can seem harmless because of how insignificant it is at the time.
But what happens when you keep doing it? Eventually, the small things aren’t so small anymore.
The same is true for the good things we do.
One day of exercise may not change your body. One healthy meal may not make you healthier. One day of prayer or reading God’s Word may not seem to make much of a difference.
But keep doing these things, and eventually you’ll become different.
Jesus used yeast to illustrate this principle when He warned His disciples to “Beware of the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees” (Matthew 16:6 NLT).
Yeast may start as something small, but eventually it spreads throughout the dough. Our choices and influences can work the same way. What we repeatedly allow into our lives eventually affects us, whether we realize it or not.
That’s why Paul said, “A man reaps what he sows” (Galatians 6:7 NIV).
So perhaps the question isn’t, “Is this one thing really that bad?” or “Will this one good thing really make a difference?”
The better question is, “What is this doing to me little by little?”
The Wise Believer, understanding that small choices eventually produce significant results, is careful about what they allow into their lives and remains faithful in doing what is right.
