You have certainly made the mistake of believing you’d remember something, but still forgot.
Let’s face it. Life is busy. There is so much going on in our heads. We could be going to another room in our homes and forget why by the time we get there.
Knowing that we are limited in this way, it’s wise to write things down, rather than trust our memories.
Ironically, you’ve probably heard that before, and the reason you haven’t done it is that you keep forgetting to.
It certainly took me a while to get into the habit. When you’ve had enough second trips to the store or embarrassments of forgetting special occasions, you’ll eventually admit defeat.
I suppose we want to think of ourselves as smart by remembering things.
Maybe it’s a consequence of school grading us on how well we remember facts, even though, in reality, those facts are just an internet search away.
Now with smartphone note, voice memo, calendar, and reminder apps, it’s never been easier to write things down.
If we look at the Bible, we see that our creator doesn’t expect us to trust our memories. When God called his prophets, in many cases, we see Him telling them to write His words down.
And I imagine when there was no option to write, it’s when He told them that he would lead and tell them what to say.
So, if you’ve been continually making the mistake of trusting your memory, why not start writing things down?
The Wise Believer accepts this human limitation and writes things down so they don’t forget.
