There is a good chance you have this bad habit.
You might think it’s normal, yet it may be costing you a lot of progress in life.
What’s the habit? Only doing things when you feel like it.
Here’s the problem. Feelings can’t be trusted.
One Saturday morning, I woke up feeling too tired to do chores.
Then I remembered something that author John Maxwell wrote.
“Feelings Follow Action”.
He explained that we usually think that we have to be in the right mood to do something, but in reality, when we start doing it, the feelings often follow.
That morning, I decided to test it by committing to 5 mins of work, and it led to one of the most productive Saturdays I’ve ever had.
Not surprisingly, the Bible isn’t silent on how feelings can lead us astray.
Proverbs 14:12, for instance, states that “There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death” (ESV).
Another is, “Those who trust in themselves are fools, but those who walk in wisdom are kept safe” (Proverbs 28:26 NIV).
So, when you find yourself about to make a decision based on how you feel, remember, the wise believer doesn’t just do, but questions if it’s real.
